Eavan Boland - Life and Work
•Born in Dublin in 1944
•Father was a diplomat; mother was a painter
•Moved to London when she was six where she experienced anti-Irish sentiment,
strengthening her sense of national identity
•Returned to Ireland at 14 where she attended school in Killiney
•Attended Trinity College in the 1960s
•Published her first volume of poetry in 1962
•Graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in English in 1966
•Became a teacher, poet, critic and essayist
•Married novelist Kevin Casey in 1969. They have two daughters.
•A lot of her poetic themes are based on being a wife and a mother (i.e. ordinary life)
•She has lectured in both Ireland (Trinity and UCD) and in the USA
•She is currently a Professor of English at Stanford University (in California)
•In 2015, Boland said that Trinity College, Dublin not only "influenced her career", but "determined her career”
